Norah Vivian Magero is a public policy research professional with over 8 years of experience in program and project management, team leadership, and policy analysis within critical sectors such as health and nutrition, education and climate change. She holds a master's degree in public policy and management from University of Potsdam, Germany, and a bachelor's degree in food, nutrition, and dietetics from Egerton University, Kenya. Prior to co-founding NAPHBUT, Vivian worked with both international and local organizations like the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), International Budget Partnership, Institute of Public Finance Kenya among others. She has consulted on several organisations and projects in the field of nutrition, climate change and public finance like the German Alliance for Climate Change and Health (KLUG), Planetary Health East Africa Hub, DAI, The Institute of Social Accountability (TISA) among others. She is an advisory member of the Planetary Health East Africa Hub and a board member of aCatalyst consulting. Vivian's passion lies in exploring the crucial connections between budgets and citizen movements in advocating for health, nutrition, and climate change sectors. Outside her professional work, she is a vocalist with two local bands in Nairobi and enjoys cycling.
Co-founder and Deputy Director
Samira Nassir has a degree in Food Nutrition and Dietetics from Egerton University and a master’s degree in public health from Kenyatta University, Kenya. She is a licensed Nutritionist with 11 years’ experience in the field of nutrition. She has 10 years’ experience working as a program manager for the German Doctors in Nairobi, where she has spearheaded the design of programs and provided oversight in the development and implementation of the community-based management of acute malnutrition programmes, which included community mobilization, nutrition assessment, situation analysis and promotion of health and nutrition. She managed various school feeding programs, wet-feeding, and nutrition programs in Mathare and Kanaani slums situated in Nairobi and Machakos county. She enjoys building relationship with donors and working with different stakeholders in mutual goals and partneships. Besides her professional work, Samira volunteers on many causes including her local mosque for the betterment of her community.
Director, Finance and Operations
Jamal Nick Mwangi is a seasoned entrepreneur and finance analyst with a special focus in the IT sector. He brings a wealth of experience as a Finance and Operations Director through his 12 years’ experience as a founder and sole proprietor of a successful business in the IT sector. Jamal managed all aspects of the business, including finance, operations, and marketing. He has proven ability to manage and oversee financial operations, develop, and implement financial strategies, and provide financial advice to other entrepreneurs he has worked with. With an academic background in the field of business statistics and IT, he brings valuable skills set that bridges NAPHBUT’s financial objectives and goals with technological advancements. His successful business background encompasses finance, operations, and marketing, infusing his role with comprehensive insights. He oversees the financial aspects of the organisation including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Beyond his professional achievements, Jamal’s commitment to environmental well-being shines through his passion for e-waste management and dedication to social responsibility through a genuine passion for community-driven initiatives. His skill set includes financial planning, risk management, internal controls, advisory services, business statistics, IT, and entrepreneurship.
Community Engagement Officer
Ibrahim James Mkwaya is a seasoned community engagement professional with over 5 years of experience in conflict resolution, peace building, and community development. His talent lies in fostering relationships, facilitating dialogue, and empowering communities to take proactive steps. Armed with sharp analytical and problem-solving skills, Ibrahim excels in communication and interpersonal dynamics. He has successfully spearheaded and managed diverse community development projects, including a community school and a borehole initiative in Kamukunji and Embakasi Central constituency. As a dedicated member of the Nyumba Kumi Initiative, he contributes significantly to creating safer and thriving neighborhoods through collective effort. Ibrahim's dialogue-forging capabilities have been instrumental in resolving community conflicts, fostering social cohesion, and establishing lasting peace. His key skills and experience encompass conflict resolution, peace building, community development, facilitation, public speaking, project management, fundraising, and community organizing.
Social & Gender Officer
Mwanaiddi is a dedicated social work professional with a decade of impactful experience. She has over 10 years’ experience working with the Ministry of Planning. She has been engaged with diverse NGOs, where she harnessed her skills to create positive change including in-service training and disseminating research and surveys. Her dedication to nurturing minds led her to five years of teaching in primary schools, and her commitment expanded beyond classrooms. Over the last five years, she has engaged with local communities through various social work and development projects championing for the causes of women and youth empowerment in areas of health, education and social sectors. Her academic background is Social Works and Community Development and a touch of linguistic elegance with a certificate in French language. Mwanaiddi is committed to creating meaningful change within her community and her journey continues to inspire the lives of the people she touches through her work.
